Youth Project/Worker

Salary £17400 to £21000

35 Hour week 08:30 – 16:00 Mon– Fri    25 Days annual leave (rising to 30) + bank holidays

An exciting opportunity to join Choysez, an innovative project working with excluded young people at Bedlington, Northumberland 12 miles from Newcastle.

We are looking for someone who can develop processes and systems that will enable young people’s achievements to be formally recognised and accredited by the various awarding bodies. Experienced in delivering support to groups of 10 or less young people you will be responsible for helping them to enjoy themselves, achieve their awards and raise their aspirations.

Delivering high quality work contributing to the five ECM outcomes you must be able to motivate and support young people. With up to three years experience, working with young people aged 11-16 in a variety of settings, including classroom based and on activities. You will preferably have experience of running ASDAN or BTEC courses and have a relevant qualification for working with young people.

The project worker has various challenges you must be able to continue to the development and delivery of team/group projects. Dedicated to continuous improvement, you must be clear about the process and purpose of youth work. Essentially you must enjoy the challenges of face-to-face work. You can expect to spend half your week taking young people on activities.

This won’t be an easy job but it will be varied, enjoyable and challenging. but if you’re the right person for the job you will know that already.

Support worker

£11,000 - £13,500

Responsible For : No Other staff

This is a support role, which allows the opportunity to support to the Choysez organisation and to give practical support to the project workers and young people who attend Choysez.

Job Purpose

To provide support to the project workers and students who attend Choysez as directed by the project workers and Project worker Co-ordinator.

Job Description

To assist in the administrative duties associated with groups as directed by the project workers.

To assist in the planning and preparation of programmes where required and to provide practical support to project workers to enhance the running of groups.

To ensure accurate records are kept and data collected to assist in the reporting requirements of all groups.

To research new activities and possible resources and put forward suggestions for project workers to consider.

To support the project workers and young people as necessary both in house and on activities as agreed with the project workers.

Participation in team meetings and external events as necessary.

To assist in planning and preparing classrooms for groups and kit boxes for those groups going out on activities.

Any other duties as directed by the Operations or Centre Manager.

Person Specification

To have practical experience in the support of young people.

Good organisational skills with the ability to work in a busy environment.

A willingness to work flexibly as part of a team.

An enthusiastic approach to learning and training.

Good communication skills and computer literate.

Desirable

A clean driving license and a willingness to embark on training to facilitate the driving of a mini bus.

An awareness of the Asdan or Btec award scheme.

Supporting project workers in delivering sessions you will have worked in a classroom or outdoor education/youth setting. You will have a willingness to learn and desire to work with young people. This is an ideal position to gain the experience to develop into project worker roles in the future. You will preferably have a classroom assistant or youth work qualification.
